India won first T20!!!!!!!!

Johannesburg (dpa) - India became the inaugural ICC Twenty20 champions with a five-run win over rivals Pakistan at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Chasing 157, Pakistan were all out for 152 in the final over to give the Indians a historic win.

Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul-Haqat came agonizingly close to becoming the hero for his side as he brought them back from the brink of defeat to score 43 from 38 balls and with four balls remaining, Pakistan needed just a six.

But with four balls remaining, the right-handed batsman inexplicably went for an outrageous flick over fine leg that was caught at fine leg by Joginder Sharma.

Indian captain Mahendra Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat and it seemed to have been the right decision as Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan piled on 20 runs in the two opening overs.

Pathan, who was on 15 from seven balls, was the first to go as he was caught at midwicket from the bowling of Mohammad Asif by the Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik after going for a huge shot.

But just as the Indians seemed to be heading for a huge total Pakistan right handed bowler Umar Gul ripped through the Indian batsmen, taking three for 28 to take his overall tally for the tournament to 14 wickets.

The 24-year-old from Peshawar came in at the end of the Indian over and took the wickets of Yuvraj Singh (14), Dhoni (6) and the biggest one of them all - Gautam Gambhir, who top scored for the Indians with 75.

Gul was the top bowler for the tournament.

Sohail Tanvir took the other wicket for Pakistan when he got the wicket of Robin Uthappa, who was out for eight.

Having restricted India to 157 for five, Pakistan must have thought they had it in the bag as their middle order batsman piled on the runs towards the end.

Sohail Tanvir scored two sixes, while Misbah-ul-Haqat weighed in with four sixes, but he fell just short when another six was needed from him, giving victory to the Indians.

Irfan Pathan was the best of the Indian bowlers with three for 16 and won the man of the match award for his performance.
