India to host the 2010 World Cup Hockey!! Chak De! India!

At last... India has been 'awarded' the honour to stage the 2010 men's World Cup Hockey Championship in its capital, New Delhi.

International Hockey Federation (FIH) president Els van Breda Vriesman announced this on Wednesday saying that, India has to meet certain targets by March before the final confirmation. But I trust my country, that they won't let this golden opportunity get out of the hands.

"We are delighted to be back in India with the World Cup for the first time since 1982," she told a news conference.

India once used to be the undefeated olympics champion and so was this game HOckey declared its national game. But it lost its popularity with time and now.... only the Bollywood film "Chak De! India" brought back the attention of the general mass towards their national game.

The last time India won the Olympics Hockey gold medal was in 1982 in Moscow in 1980 when the field was depleted due to a U.S.-led boycott. And the 2006 Asian games at Doha was the first time when India could not get a medal in the Asian games.

New Delhi, India is also to host the Commonwealth Games in October 2010. So, as a whole, Delhi is going to have a great time in 2010. I think at that time, I will be in Delhi having my higher studies.

The Hockey World cup is to be held in February at New Delhi's National Stadium, which would be ready by then to stage the Commonwealth Games scheduled for October 2010.

In the the world body's executive meeting, India was 'unanimous' choice. The main reason for this is the booming economy for sponsors and also that India has been the Olympics Champion 8 times.
